Al Zimmerman began his then to be future career as a tattoo artist in 1983, while building home made tattoo machines, and tattooing friends while still in high school. In grade 13 the beginnings of his artistic talent were recognized as he was the recipient of his OAC art award, and his acceptance to Georgian College for graphic and fine arts. It was during this time that Al purchased professional tattoo machines and adopted the sober lifestyle, allowing him to truly focus on his career
After his formal education in the arts, Al took his craft to the road, touring, tattooing, and learning elements of the art of tattooing from accomplished tattoo artists. Al again went on the road under the moniker of Nomad Tattoos by Zap, "Zap" being a nickname which had stuck with him since high school. During the years of his nomadic venture, Al tattooed all over Ontario and the northeastern united states.
In 1991 Al returned to his roots in Owen Sound Ontario and opened up a studio, REAL TATTOOS BY ZAP, in the downtown core. Since then he has been offering the highest quality in tattooing available in Owen Sound and the surrounding area. |
